COMO FILTRAR EL AGUA DE MAR

No es un secreto que el agua de mar es beneficiosa para la salud. Ayuda a nuestro sistema inmunológico a estar en equilibrio de minerales y eso lo refuerza. Por esto, en los últimos años muchas voces han recomendado ir a la playa y recoger agua de mar. Este método entraña varios riesgos que describiremos a continuación.

El agua de mar lo cura todo

Como ya hemos dicho, el agua de mar no cura, ayuda al sistema inmune. Es por esto que, antes de su consumo, hay que preparar el agua para no correr el riesgo de una intoxicación o una respuesta negativa de nuestro organismo a los agentes contaminantes que se encuentran en el agua de mar.

Hervir el agua de mar

Uno de los métodos más efectivos para acabar con los microorganismos que habitan en el agua de mar y que podrían ser perjudiciales para nuestra salud es el de hervir el agua. Hervir agua durante al menos 10 minutos nos garantiza que mueran todos los organismos vivos (bacterias y otros microorganismos). Este proceso es conocido por todos y forma parte de las cadenas de producción de productos envasados, desde hace mucho tiempo. Por ejemplo, la leche se hierve antes de su consumo, para evitar posibles infecciones bacterianas. A este proceso se le conoce como Pasteurización. 

Lamentablemente, en el agua de mar no solo hay microorganismos nocivos, sino que también hay zooplacton y fitoplacton que aportan “vida” al agua. Cuando se hierve, el agua se “muere”. Se queda estéril. Perdiendo parte de sus beneficios.

Por otra parte, aunque eliminemos los microorganismos con el hervido, todos los microplásticos y fueles seguirán ahí. Es decir, hervir el agua no garantiza que esté apta para el consumo humano. La ingesta prolongada de estos elementos puede llegar a ser muy perjudicial para la salud y provocar enfermedades en el medio y largo plazo.

Filtrar el agua de mar

Existe otro proceso, menos conocido, mediante el cual se eliminan todas aquellas partículas nocivas que puedan encontrarse en el agua de mar: el filtrado.

Hay muchos tipos distintos de filtros y no todos aseguran la esterilización. Algunas casas cuentan con filtros domésticos que, en última instancia, aseguran que productos como el cloro u otros aditivos que se encuentran en nuestros sistemas de agua público, no lleguen a nuestros cuerpos. Sin embargo, estos filtros solo consiguen eliminar ciertos elementos disueltos en el agua, peor no aseguran la esterilización de la misma. 

Los filtros industriales, a diferencia de los domésticos, conceden una garantía de esterilización. Los hay de distinta densidad y, para garantizar un agua pura sin sustancias nocivas o microorganismos, debe ser como mínimo de 0.22 micras.

If we are almost 70% water, it is logical to think that what happens in our organism has a direct relationship with the liquid element. This body water contains electrolytes and solutes in solution. It forms the extracellular fluid, the main extracellular ion being sodium and potassium as the main, more concentrated, ion of the intracellular fluid.

Water is an acidic nutrient but it is fundamental for our body to remain properly structured and in perfect working order. If water is essential for the organism, the maintenance of the water balance is fundamental for the human being. Any imbalance can negatively affect physical performance and harm the body’s health (Veicsteinas and Belleri,1993).

A person can lose around 2.5 litres of water a day: 1.5 litres through urine, 100 ml with the faeces and 1 litre through evaporation, breathing and perspiration (which increases considerably in very hot environments and above all with physical exercise).

When we talk about sportsmen and women, these water losses increase and consequently the water requirement increases. In extreme conditions, water requirements can increase by 5 or 6 times the normal amount (Iturriza et al., 1995).

Dehydration is defined as the dynamic loss of body water due to sweat during physical exercise without fluid replacement, or a replacement that does not compensate for the proportion of fluid lost.
